چکیده
Page 567 Altered stimulus perception caused by a previous stimulus presentation is referred to as priming. Whereas crossmodal priming is comparatively well studied, intramodal priming received less attention. HoffmannHensel and Freiherr now recorded skin conductance as well as breathing data and measured reaction times for olfactory tasks. These recordings revealed that negative odors were more arousing than positive odors. Pleasantness of a negative odor increased when it was preceded by a positive odor rather than a negative odor. The authors also observed longer identification reaction times for the second odor which they explained by an increased “perceptual load” due to incomplete processing of the first stimulus during presentation of the second odor.
